  • Finance Minister Jane Hutt visits Gwent Wildlife Trust reserve

    Jane Hutt, the Minister for Finance and Government Business, today visited Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Silent Valley nature reserve near Ebbw Vale.The woodland reserve is maintained partly thanks to the funding from the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), which is supported by a proportion of the Landfill Tax which will be devolved to Wales in 2018.

  • Rare wildflower meadows and ancient woodland under threat in Caerphilly

    Caerphilly County Borough Council are currently putting forward proposals in their revised Local Development Plan to build roads and more than 800 houses on some of the last remaining wildflower meadows left in the UK. A consultation period around the proposed development plan runs until midnight April 22nd. During this short and crucial window, Gwent Wildlife Trust strongly urge members of the public to write to Caerphilly’s Planning Department (1) before the deadline to support safeguarding the wildflower meadows and ancient woodland from the proposed development.

  • First year for prestigious environmental award for youngsters at Magor Marsh

    Five youngsters from two local schools have become the first recipients of the prestigious John Muir environmental awards at Magor Marsh Nature Reserve. The youngsters from two schools, Caldicot School and Wyedean School, volunteer as Wildlife Warriors at Magor Marsh and were delighted when their hard work and dedication paid off.
