We have decades of experience in leading and supporting high quality outdoor learning experiences at our centres. There are many ways for your school, college or home ed group to experience wildlife and learn about nature, so get in touch.

We offer a wide range of curriculum and wellbeing-linked full and half-day visits at the Derek Upton Centre, Magor Marsh or Environmental Resource Centre, Ebbw Vale.
Find out about the Wonders of Water, how the creatures have adapted to their environment and how they can be used to indicate the health of a water system. From the fascinating water scorpions to the scary looking diving beetle larva, the pond is a world full of surprises and wonder.
Marvellous Minibeasts is an insight to the creatures hidden beneath our feet, under logs and in trees. What are the identification features of an insect? Learn to use a key to help you with identification. Collect data by conducting a tally of the creatures you find.s
Explore and compare different Healthy Habitats and the plants/creatures living in them. How are they adapted to life in that habitat? Look at food chains and food webs within specific habitats.

Our experienced staff can lead in-school workshops. We will explore your school grounds, discovering and learning about the habitats and species that live there. Working with your students, we can discuss how to make your school even more wildlife friendly.

Did you know?
We also run youth groups for young people aged 9 to 24 in Pontypool, Ebbw Vale and Newport. Meetings take place on Tuesday evenings 18:00 to 20:00.
Take part indoor and outdoor nature-based activities, campaigns, educational talks and sustainable skill building.
During school holidays, sessions include all day courses, camping and field trips.
