Race for Local Wildlife this autumn and raise money for your favourite Gwent Wildlife Trust nature reserves. The Race for Local Wildlife is a virtual race from your home, with three distances to choose from: 1km, 5km or 10km. All money raised will go towards our Nature Reserves Appeal to help protect the wild places and amazing green spaces you love and keep them accessible for us all to enjoy.

About the event

Whether you're a snail or a peregrine falcon, the Race for Local Wildlife is a fun and healthy way to make a difference this autumn during this difficult time for everyone.

(Unfortunately we had to postpone the Race for Wildlife and while hoping it will be happening in May 2021, we thought we would stage a virtual race that everyone can take part in. Please note, this does not affect your Race for Wildlife place if you have deferred it. This is a separate event.)

We hope to raise money from the Race for Local Wildlife and try to replace funds we haven't been able to raise from events planned this summer.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Run, walk, jog or wheel, on the weekend of the 24th and 25th October 2020.
  • There is not a specific start time but please race during a safe time of day.
  • There are three distances, 10km, 5km and 1km so pre-plan your route accordingly from your house or a nearby route you know well.
  • We're asking for a small donation to enter, but you can help us so much more by raising sponsorship funds too. Please use Facebook Fundraiser or Virgin Money Giving
  • There will be a special prizes for participants that raise the most. There will be spot prizes for fastest times, creative running routes (could you run a route shaped like an animal?) and best fancy dress so don't be afraid to go wild!
  • GO SOCIAL! Socially distant doesn't have to mean alone - join and share on the Race for Local Wildlife  Facebook event page - post your run on your socials using the hashtag #RaceForLocalWildlife and include @GwentWildlife
  • You can post your results up until 5pm on the 26th October and we’ll announce winners on the 27th October.
  • Try and use a route tracing app to record the route you are pacing out (Strava and Map My Run are good examples).
  • Entrants of all abilities are welcome to join and you can take part alone or as part of your household.
