Wild Wyeswood

Help grow a thriving nature network at Wyeswood Common in the Wye Valley, Southeast Wales. 20 years ago, there was barely a dandelion in sight. Now, it’s becoming a haven for wildlife across the Wye Valley. Together, we can restore habitats, improve biodiversity, and help communities connect with nature for generations to come.

Why this matters

30 by 30 (or 30x30) is a landmark global conservation target aimed at protecting and effectively managing at least 30% of the Earth's land and oceans by the year 2030. It recognises how vital nature is for the health of people and planet, and is a driver for action across the world. So it’s fitting that YGN will celebrate its 30 year milestone by supporting this historic global conservation target. Funds raised from anniversary activities will contribute to Gwent Wildlife Trust’s work to restore nature in Gwent, SE Wales – where the anniversary seminar and dinner is being held this year.

Nature is in crisis. In Wales, 1 in 5 species are threatened with extinction, often because habitats have been lost and fragmented. Despite the Wye Valley’s vital conservation status, its rare combination of river ecosystems and ancient limestone woodlands face the same degradation.

If we don’t act now to restore and reconnect our irreplaceable habitats, biodiversity will continue to plummet. Fortunately, the nature network we’re creating at Wyeswood Common is proof that nature can recover.

The Big Give logo

Double your impact! We are aiming to raise £25,000 this year towards this major landscape restoration project. We have the opportunity for all donations to our appeal to be match-funded through the Big Give Christmas Challenge, meaning every pound donated can be double by the Big Give – so a donation of £100 would contribute £200 to this important appeal.
