Part of the Nature Networks Fund (round 3), delivered by the Heritage Fund, on behalf of the Welsh Government with Natural Resources Wales.

As Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Water Vole Project Officer, you will be responsible for the coordination and undertaking of survey work relating to habitats, Water Vole and Mink on the western end of the Gwent Levels. This survey work informing the production of a Water Vole Reintroduction Feasibility Study and if appropriate licence application. The role will also involve landowner liaison, educational events and involving/upskilling volunteers to support your work.

Job reference: Water Vole Project Officer

This role works alongside our Senior Evidence Officer, Community Ecologist and Head of Nature Recovery, and reports to the Evidence Manager. Together this team will deliver an exemplary Feasibility Study relating to the proposed reintroduction of Water Voles to the Wentlooge Levels, based on both field work and desk-based research. There will be a focus on both Water Voles and Mink. Alongside this there will be a vital element of landowner liaison, education provision and the upskilling and involvement of volunteers who will form an integral part in the delivery of the project. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly organised and talented communicator, well versed in species reintroduction,  who is passionate about wildlife and wanting to reverse the nature emergency.

To be successful in this role, you will have good ecological knowledge, particularly in relation to Water Voles, Mink and Species Reintroduction, enjoy communicating with a wide range of people including landowner and the general public, as well as having excellent report writing skills.
