Our Commitment to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)

We're working for a people-powered nature recovery, that is informed by science and encourages participation for all. We want to make sure that everyone can benefit from nature and know that this will help us achieve our vision and mission.

We recognise that there isn’t equal access to nature across Gwent. 

• Many people face barriers to enjoying wilder places, including our nature reserves.
• People across Gwent don’t have equal access to taking part in nature’s recovery, sometimes this is because of gender, race, disability, age, social class, sexual orientation or religion.
• We recognise the value of difference and try to consider and appreciate all the unique characteristics that make people who they are. This includes, but is not limited to, national origins, language, race, colour, disability, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status and family structure. Diversity also encompasses diversity of thought and life experiences.
• We want to create and maintain a culture where people are welcome and valued for who they are as an individual or group. Inclusion creates a sense of belonging, feeling respected, and valued. 

This is why we have an EDI strategy, which embraces equality, diversity and inclusion for all people and for nature.  

One of the ways we are working to increase our engagement with diverse communities in Gwent is by actively engaging people from diverse backgrounds to improve health and social inequalities and to increase access to education and engagement for diverse groups. We’re also continuing to engage with diverse groups through innovative community engagement projects and sharing our work to inspire people to act for nature.
