White-tailed Sea Eagle Reintroduction
Gwent Wildlife Trust are working with Eagle Reintroduction Wales, a Durrell Wildlife Programme to return a small breeding population of White-tailed Eagles to Southeast Wales and the Severn Estuary in partnership with the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. This reintroduction is licenced by Natural Resources Wales. A licence will be submitted next spring 2025 in hope that we get the greenlight to start a 5-year release scheme in the summer of 2026.
Ten vulnerable species recovery
A biodiverse, healthy, functioning ecosystem depends on a vast variety of species of course, but by spotlighting a small number, we are far better able to measure impact and engage others in targetted action. Each of our selected species occur in Gwent, are threatened and feature in the Greater Gwent State of Nature Report (2021.)
