In 2022, China will host the Conference of Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Montreal – also known as COP15. COP15 will be a crucial moment in the global fight to reverse the worldwide decline in biodiversity. It’s also an important moment in efforts to tackle the climate crisis and make the case for nature-based solutions to climate change.

The South East Wales Resilient Uplands (SEWRU) was a 3-year (2018-2021) collaborative project, led by Torfaen Council, and involving Gwent Wildlife Trust, Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent Councils, Natural Resources Wales, Police, Fire and Rescue Services, Gwent Wildlife Trust and the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Gwent Wildlife Trust are working with Eagle Reintroduction Wales, a Durrell Wildlife Programme to return a small breeding population of White-tailed Eagles to Southeast Wales and the Severn Estuary in partnership with the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. This reintroduction is licenced by Natural Resources Wales. A licence will be submitted next spring 2025 in hope that we get the greenlight to start a 5-year release scheme in the summer of 2026.
