Gwent Bat Group
Newport Urban Bat Survey

Gwent Bat Group are looking for people who want to know more about bats, or those who want to improve their bat hunting skills! This summer the Group will be carrying out a survey of urban bats in Newport and we need more people!

No experience is necessary, in fact complete beginners are actively encouraged to get involved. Equally, those with experience are encouraged to participate in this exciting project.

Newport Urban Bat Survey (NUBS) will begin to map the bat population in Newport and surrounding areas, allowing us to identify bat roosts, flight paths and hot spots, bringing residents closer to these furry mammals.

Volunteers will then be able to go out and survey their area 3 times over the course of the summer - this would likely involve a 30min walk on a warm summers evening at dusk - and no one will be asked to survey alone.

We have started to allocate kilometre squares to surveyors but need more volunteers.  The survey has equipment to lend and will provide all instruction and the results will form a valuable resource alongside similar exercises going on in South Wales.

If you want any further information about Newport Urban Bat Survey, then please contact: James Pinder (01633 232819)  or  Sinead Lynch (01633 232880).

The whole Wales survey is being organised by the Bat Conservation Trust, please contact:
