Gwent Fungus Group
|
We hold regular meetings throughout
the year but mainly focussed on Spring and Autumn, we meet for a
couple of hours mostly on Saturday mornings, with the occasional
either midweek or Sunday meeting.
We have over the past two years
conducted many successful surveys on several different sites,
including Gwent Wildlife Trust reserves such as Silent Valley,
Pentwyn Farm and New Grove Meadows. The group is involved in
surveying the fungi to be found in the Gwent area, both for
scientific purposes and of course our own pleasure. We do not,
however, promote the picking of fungi for the pot during our
meetings, although help will of course be given by the more
confident identifiers in the identification of both edible and
poisonous species.

If any competent fungi identifiers,
not already members of the group, would like to send in their fungi
records we would be very pleased to receive them. They can then be
added not just to our database but also sent on the SEWBReC and the
national database FRDBI managed by the British Mycological Society.
We are at present particularly interested in records for the
following grassland fungi: Pink Waxcap (Hygrocybe calyptriformis),
Date Waxcap (Hygrocybe spadicea), Olive Earthtongue (Microglossum
olivaceum) and the Violet Coral (Clavaria zollingeri).
