Magor Marsh Reserve

Over the last three years the Magor Marsh Centre has hosted over 6000 children on educational visits.  The numbers continue to grow.

We also run a series of INSET courses for teachers and support staff.  These courses are designed to increase confidence in using the outdoors for enhancing the curriculum and improving school grounds for wildlife.

You can download a wide range of teaching materials covering all aspects of our Magor Marsh Reserve.  These include many worksheets and information resources.

Wildlife Warriors Youth Group

This is a fun-packed programme of activities for our 11-16 year old supporters. Run by Tom Rugg, a qualified teacher, you can learn bush craft and survival skills, see bird ringing up close, go badger watching and learn a great deal about practical conservation. The course runs on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at our Magor Marsh Nature Reserve (with field trips to other sites in Gwent). The first session is on Tuesday 29th March and continues during term time until October 18th 2011.  See some photos of the group.

Places on this very popular course cost £8 per half term for members, £10 per half term for non-members. With very limited places, if you would like to attend, please contact Kathy Barclay at Magor Marsh on magormarsh@gwentwildlife.org or 01633 889048.

Forest Schools

Centre staff are now fully trained Level 3 Forest Schools leaders and can host Forest Schools activities in the Forest School areas at Magor Marsh.  In addition to schools events, community groups (e.g. Guides, Scouts, W.I.) are welcome to visit for a guided tour or wildlife activity evening.

Environmental Resource Centre, Ebbw Vale

The Environmental Resource Centre is the first building to be completed as part of the redevelopment of the former steelworks site in Ebbw Vale. The centre is located on an ecologically rich site next to the Pumphouse cooling ponds, which have become a haven for wildlife since the closure of the steelworks.

As a result, there is already a wealth of wildlife for visitors to discover, such as newts, dragonflies and damselflies, orchids and a resident moorhen (quite elusive). GWT will be running workshops for schools and other learning providers, as well as an annual programme of events, courses and seminars on a range of subjects and issues relating to wildlife and the environment.
