Reserves

Get closer to nature!  Why not help to warden a nature reserve, or take part in practical work such as hedge laying or scrub clearance ? Whatever the task, tools, training and supervision are provided. You do not have to be experienced – everyone does what they can.

The working parties at the GWT reserves are an opportunity to get out into lovely countryside and get fit, while enjoying good company and helping the environment ...what more could you want !  Gwent Wildlife Trust manages 30 reserves so you will guess that the maintenance is quite a demanding task and we are always very grateful for all the help we can get.

The working party projects would include such activities as bramble clearing, birch thinning, path maintenance, pond clearing, coppicing and hedging. There are also always opportunities for specialist work like brush-cutting or chainsaw operations for volunteers with the appropriate qualifications, but everyone is welcome !

The details and locations of the arranged working party sites are on the current conservation volunteer opportunities web page and you can contact the organiser or the Trust office for directions.

Wildlife

Calling all botanists, bird-watchers, and bug hunters !  The Trust needs to know what lives in Gwent’s countryside. By acting as a watchdog on new developments, and working with Council planning departments, we help ensure the survival of Gwent’s precious wildlife. Could you help us update our wildlife sites registers, or tell us about new habitat havens ?

If you think you could be interested in any of these activities, please look at the how to be a volunteer page.
