Collect seed with us in Autumn to help with the "Millenium Seedbank" Project run by Kew Gardens.

We have been invited by Kew to assist them in their UK National Tree Seed Project which forms part of Kew’s ‘Millenium Seedbank’ project.

This project is very important as it will provide a source of material for research on and provide a reserve of seed to allow future restocking of woodlands.

The aim of the project is to collect seeds from all the native tree species within the UK and we are responsible for a number of different tree species within various parts of Gwent.

We wish to involve a small band of volunteers to help us collect the seed. To do this you will need to be reasonably fit (although we don’t expect you to shin up the trees to get the seeds) and be willing to spend a few days in the autumn out in Gwent’s beautiful woodlands. There will also need to be some flexibility on dates as we need to target collecting when seeds are ripe and it is not raining. Full training and equipment will be provided. If you are interested in being involved then please contact either the Project Officer – Andy Karran (akarran@gwentwildlife.org) or our Volunteer Officer – Dipti Patel (dpatel@gwentwildlife.org) or 01600 740600.
