Training Day on Orchard Planting  - FULLY BOOKED

Monday 10th March 2012
Location: Ty Mawr Convent

The Gwent Orchards Project will plant a new orchard at the Gwent Wildlife Trust managed Ty Mawr Convent. The planting will be combined with a training day to help give others the confidence in how to plant fruit trees properly. Training will include: how to plan your orchard; how to plant your tree and secure it; aftercare techniques, including how to protect the tree from damage.
 


Apple Grafting workshop  -  FULLY BOOKED

Wednesday 14th March 2012 10am – 1pm
Location: Pentwyn Farm Orchard, Penallt
Come and learn how to graft apple trees! This ancient skill will allow you to propagate apple varieties – something especially important for conserving traditional Welsh varieties.
 


Gwent Orchards Project forum

Saturday 24th March 2012, 10:30am – 2pm
Location: The Mulberry Centre, Abergavenny
The Orchards forum this year will include a project update by the Gwent Orchards project officer. We will also hear about the wildlife found in an orchard in Monmouthshire and we will also have a grafting demonstration. Lunch is provided and admission is free. Training Day on Maintenance Pruning in Established Orchards

Saturday 4th February 2012 1pm – 4pm
Location: The Mulberry Centre, Abergavenny
The Gwent Orchards Project provided training to anyone with an unruly orchard! We looked at how to prune established trees to maintain them in good condition with both a theoretical and practical session.

Training Day on Apple Identification

Tuesday 11th October 2011    1.00 – 4.00pm
Location: Pentwyn Farm Orchard, Penallt
The Gwent Orchards Project provided training on the basics of apple identification. After learning a little bit about the theory we put what we’d learnt to practice as we tried to ID some apples.
 


Training Day on Summer Pruning in Established Orchards

Saturday 9th July 2011 12 – 4pm 
Location: Pentwyn Farm Orchard, Penallt
The Gwent Orchards Project provided training on how to prune plums and other soft fruit at our summer pruning workshop. The afternoon involved both practical and theoretical sessions.


Mistletoe Matters Presentation and Demonstration

26th February 2011, 1pm-4pm,

Mistletoe expert Jonathon Briggs told us about mistletoe and why it is important to us.  He had some berry samples with him which we used to demonstrate how you can get mistletoe growing in your own trees.  He also provided advice on how to manage mistletoe in your trees.

The Gwent Orchards Project planted a community orchard at the Gwent Wildlife Trust Springdale Farm reserve.  The planting was combined with a training day to help give others the confidence in how to plant fruit trees properly.  Training included: how to plan your orchard; how to plant your tree and secure it; aftercare techniques, including how to protect the tree from damage.
