Mainly sites and species covered under the Habitats Regulations.

Special areas of conservation (SAC)
Special protection areas (SPA)
Ramsar sites.
World heritage sites.

B

Mainly sites and species covered under W&CA

 

Sites of special scientific interest (SSSI)
National nature reserves (NNR)
Marine nature reserves.
Sites hosting Red Data Book species.
Schedule 1, 5 & 8 species (W&CA).

C

 Local nature reserves (LNR)
Other sites (not described above) e.g. Biodiversity Action Plans priority habitats/species.
Wildlife sites (SINCs)
Ancient semi natural woodland.
Landscape features of major importance.
e.g. wildlife corridors and stepping stones.

D

 Sites not in the above categories, but with some biodiversity interest.

E

 Site with little or no biodiversity interest.
